Why does the caulk around my tub keep failing?
Caulk takes constant water and movement, and in Florida's humidity mildew gets under it. If it was applied over a dirty surface, with the wrong product, or never fully cured, it fails faster. The lasting fix is removing all the old caulk, cleaning and drying the joint, and applying a proper mildew-resistant sealant.
Is failing tub caulk a big deal?
It's worth fixing before it becomes one. Water slipping past failed caulk gets behind the tub surround into the drywall and framing, where it rots and grows mold out of sight. Re-caulking is quick and cheap; the hidden water damage from ignoring it is not. Catch it while it's just the seal.
